Fraternal importer sets sights on UK

An American company that imports European and South American beer is to set up a UK arm to supply selected brands from its portfolio to the off-trade.

Shelton Brothers claims to be the leading imported speciality beer supplier in the US, with a portfolio that includes Belgian brewers Achel, Cantillon and De Proef, Mahr's from Germany, France's Thiriez and the Brazilian brewer Sud Brack.

The company also supplies British brewers including Adnams Broadside, Coniston Bluebird and Hop Back Summer Lightning to the US market.

Vice president Will Shelton said the initial beer line-up for Shelton Brothers UK is still to be finalised and w ill inevitably differ from the company's US range. "We only really want to distribute things we can have exclusivity on," he said. " A lot of the things we sell in the US are already handled by someone else in the UK."

Shelton said the company w ill aim to have a rapid turnover of stock. "We're trying to replicate what we do in the US which is to import small quantities and turn it over quickly so we keep the freshness of the beer."

The campaign name There’s A Beer For That may have got cynics like me trying to think of things there wasn’t a beer for, but broadly speaking it was a force for good.
