Bargain Booze c-store trials

Bargain Booze has begun a trial of its convenience store format. Two stores were opened with the new fascia at the start of this month with a third opened this week. Joint managing director Matthew Hughes would not confirm the name or the location of the shops but said they were "doing very nicely". An official unveiling is scheduled for Sunday (June 17). Bargain Booze decided to go solo with a convenience format, which dedicates two-thirds of shop space to food and a third to alcohol, after a 12-month trial partnership with Select & Save.

Stewart joins Asda team

David Stewart has been appointed BWS category director for Asda. Stewart, who started in the role in May, previously worked as a general manager in Asda's electronics department. In the past Asda has had two separate category directors - one for wine, and one for beers and spirits. The roles have been combined and Stewart will oversee the BWS buying teams .

Stanton quits CERT Group

CERT Group chief executive Jeff Stanton has left the company. Stanton, head of the bonded warehouse and logistics company for 13 years, has not revealed his next move . Former Racal Electronics commercial director Keith Reynolds has been appointed executive chairman with immediate effect.

Lifting the spirits

I were to sum up alcohol sales over Christmas 2017 in one word, it would be “gin”.
