Employee mourned

29 June, 2007

Wine Cellar is mourning the death of one of its longest-serving managers, Julia Ann Hatton, who died suddenly last month aged 66.

Julia was "a stalwart figure"

the company said,

whose career with the chain in its various guises spanned 31 years.

In 1991 her shop at Lymm in Cheshire was highly commended in the OLN Off- licence of the Year awards and the following year won the Multiple Specialist category.

"All new innovations were embraced and Julia worked hard at motivating staff with new ideas, including some of her own suggestions," said a company spokesman.

The limitations of Instawines

Picture the scene. You put your key in the keyhole, shove the door with your shoulder, drop your bags and look down. There, beaming up at you, is some relative or friend’s smug postcard with sandy beaches, Piña Coladas and palm trees (or, these days, an in nity pool and a detox smoothie) with a literal or metaphorical “wish you were here” written large.
