Mike Paul was named managing director of Orbital in a surprise move in June. Additions to the portfolio include Stormhoek's Couture rosť 2007

- a Pinotage/Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon blend designed to be served over ice - new premium wine range Stormhoek Estate Vineyards, and Rule Breaker - an Australian range made from five unusual grape varieties. Orbital's association with blogger Hugh Macleod continued with the Big Love marketing campaign for Stormhoek Rosť running in Tesco stores, and in August the Stormhoek range will be repackaged.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
