English cricket to be spurred on by rum

Cockspur Rum has signed a three -year deal that will see the brand heavily promoted during cricket matches.

The Barbados

brand is set to become the

official

spirit of English Test Match

grounds. The link-up will include perimeter board ads and a "rum shack" beach bar where

Cockspur can be sample d.

David Smith, Cockspur's global brand director, said: "Cricket is the perfect vehicle for Cockspur to link with as the brand expands its business in the UK.

We look forward to bringing some Caribbean spirit to the Test Match grounds."

The brand is

extending its sponsorship of the Cockspur Cup through to 2010. This year's tournament features 395 clubs across England, Scotland and Wales, with the final taking place at Lord's on Sept 10. Along with

prizes

of £6,000 for the winners and £3,000 for the runners-up, both teams contesting the final will be flown to Barbados for the 30th Rumsey Pro Am, also sponsored by Cockspur.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
