W&Y pours £2m into Courage beer

19 July, 2007

Brewer Wells & Young's is investing £2 million in a re-launch of its Courage beer portfolio.

The ad campaign, to be launched later this year, is the first in more than 10 years for the brand.

The Bedford-based brewer bought Courage from S&N in January this year.

At the time, W&Y managing director Nigel McNally said: "The Courage ales are quite iconic in terms of the brewing industry and there is huge awareness nationally - particularly in the south.

"Although S&N admits it has neglected the brands in favour of others, they have performed in line with the market despite the lack of investment. We intend to give the brands some TLC. We feel we can do an amazing job, given our success in terms of NPD."

W&Y has not yet revealed details about the push.

Agreeing to disagree

Disagreeing about wine is a fact of wine-trade life, like drugs in sport or corruption in politics. Because taste is entirely subjective, debates about our personal preferences are as inevitable as they are interminable. Indeed, these long-winded, wine-fuelled arguments are precisely what make our jobs so much fun.
