Wines to ward off the summer chill

Melbourne Lounge

Cabernet/Merlot 2005

South Eastern Australia

Supplier: Constellation

A beautiful rich garnet colour on pouring sets the scene for a heady bouquet of autumnal fruits, wood smoke and herbs. A burst of stewed plums on the palate is followed by lingering notes of Christmas pudding and just a hint of liquorice. Altogether a gentle giant of a wine. SB

La Chamiza

Malbec 2006

World Wine Agencies,

This garnet-coloured wine has red fruit on the nose and the palate which is complemented by hints of toffee and caramel. Light tannins mean it can be drunk with or without food.

Château de Riquewihr, Domaine

Vorboug Grand Cru Gewurztraminer 2002

Supplier: Waverley TBS

Stone fruit, vanilla and mango on the palate of this lemon/gold wine . Elegant minerality and a persistent, fruity finish. RE

Chivite Vendimia Tardía

Navarra 2004

Supplier: Berkmann Wine Cellars

Barrel-fermented in new French oak barriques, this noble rot Moscatel de Grano Menudo sticky has a nose of candied orange, marmalade and oak. On the palate it is full-bodied and syrupy with honey, fresh orange and marmalade and good balancing acid. The finish is long and spicy

with oak, honey and herbal notes. Great with cheesecake and other fruity desserts. CB

Maven Marlborough

Chardonnay 2006

Supplier: WaverleyTBS

Notes of peach and apple on the nose are followed by citrus on the palate. A refreshing, medium-weight wine with a buttery finish.
