Austrian wine supplier arrives
Published:  09 August, 2007

An Austrian wine supplier has opened its first UK sales office.

Kaiser Garten Wines is based in Corby Glen, Grantham, supplying wine from Austria's Burgenland region to all sectors of the UK trade.

A statement from the company said: "The UK portfolio has been reached after exhaustive tastings, research and discussions, resulting in wines showing the very best of Burgenland's microclimate with fruit-driven flavours and aromas and grown in the most eco-friendly vineyards."

The UK office will be run by Jeremy Marshall Roberts. Anthony Proctor will be responsible for dealing with the UK off-trade.

Kaiser Garten said the new sales office would be able to build on the Austrian wine industry's efforts to make inroads into the relatively undeveloped market.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
