Coming up rosé with pink Chardonnay

06 September, 2007

Buckingham Vintners has developed a sparkling rosé Chardonnay to appeal to the female market. The wine, which is priced at £4.99, is stocked at Asda and Co-op and will be available in Marks & Spencer in the autumn. Buckingham Vintners' marketing manager Jon Pepper said: "Years of growth driven by increasingly deep discounting have finally hit their ceiling, creating a need for innovation to pull more consumers into the wine category. Pink Chardonnay frizzante combines three successful wine styles in one neat product."

When asked how it was possible to make a rosé wine from a white grape variety, a spokeswoman for Buckingham Vintners said: "We are not going to disclose this detail. Just put it down to special winemaking."
