Spoilt for choice

With the Wines of Argentina Annual Trade Tasting teetering on the horizon, here's a look at the vast array of wines that will be on offer

With its UK office up and running, Wines of Argentina is gearing up for its biggest tasting yet - some 150 Argentinian producers, plus UK agents, will be showing 1,000 wines on more than 80 stands.

UK director James Forbes says: "It is the biggest that we've ever done - apart from dancing elephants and aliens from Mars I think we have got just about everything Argentina has to offer."

Visitors should look out for the Mendoza Malbec 2007 table, where 30 Malbecs, three from each of the top 10 sub-regions of Mendoza, will be on taste. Another satellite table will show wines from off the beaten track, while there will be a series of seminars and talks in the Natwest Media Centre. In the invitation-only food zone, a top chef will match dishes to 15 Argentinian wines.

One of the world's most southerly wineries - Bodega Del Fin Del Mundo from Neuquén in Patagonia - has been signed up by 10 International. The bodega's range of cool-climate wines will be on taste, and it is developing a "special project" with 10 International, due to be launched early next year.

Finca Flichman is launching Gestos (£5.99), a range in which half the grapes are sourced from vineyards at 700m altitude, for fruit and body, and half from vineyards at 1,100m, for finesse and elegance. The limited edition Expresiones 2006, Paisajes 2005 terroir wines and company icon Dedicado, which is only created in exceptional years, will be on taste.

Les Grands Chais de France will be at the tasting for the first time to show wines from Finca La Celia, as part of its new strategic partnership with Viña San Pedro. The new Malbec from 35° South will be on taste.

Mendoza-based Pascual Toso will unveil a new look for the Toso varietal range (£5.49-5.99)

and will also launch Malbec blend Pascual Toso Single Vineyard Finca Pedregal 2005 (£27.99), Pascual Toso Alta Reserva Syrah 2006 (£8.99), sparkling Extra Toso Pinot Noir 2004 (£8.99) and Malbec Rosé 2007 (£5.99). Newly released Magdalena Toso 2005 (£38.99),

which is only made in exceptional years, will also be on taste at the Stratford's Wine Agencies stand.

Enotria is launching an off-trade range from Santa Ana, including a Torrontés and Malbec (£4.99). The new organic Santa Ana Eco range (£6.99) consists of Torrontés, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, and the winery is also releasing a Cabernet Sauvignon in its top La Mascota range (£8.99). Enotria is also showcasing the 2007 vintage of Bodega Colomé's high-altitude Torrontés (£7.99).

PLB will be showing Bodegas Escorihuela Gascón's new Candela Pequeñas Producciones range (£11.99), and the latest 2006 vintage of Chakana Estate's Premium Estate Selection wine (£9.99) - a Malbec/Syrah/Petit Verdot blend.

Trapiche viticultural director Marcelo Belmonte will be at the tasting to present a new Pinot Noir 2005 in the Broquel range (£8.99) and the latest trio in the limited edition Trapiche Malbec Single Vineyard collection, from the 2005 vintage.

Finca Las Moras is launching single varietal range Black Label (£8.99), to be distributed by Chalié Richards.

Mendoza-based Doña Paula is celebrating 10 years of winemaking with a

premium range featuring a Shiraz/Viognier, Tannat/Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Viognier (£10.99).

Alberto Arizu, owner of Luigi Bosca winery, will be at the tasting to unveil new packaging for the signature Luigi Bosca Reserva range, and to show the blended Gala Collection including the rare Viognier/Chardonnay/Riesling blend Gala 3.

Familia Zuccardi is showing off the new look Santa Julia range, which was redesigned with input from distributor Thierry's to match its new price points.

Trivento has won Fairtrade status for its £5.99 Otra Vida Cabernet Sauvignon, and has a new general manager - Andr és Izquierdo. The £9.99 Golden Reserve range now has a Chardonnay and will gain a Syrah in 2008.

Ra úl Joffré, owner of Valle de Uco winery RJ Viñedos, is launching Pasión 4 - a £4.99-5.99 range named for his four daughters who all work in the winery.

The lightly-oaked range includes Chardonnay/ Chenin, Bonarda, Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and is imported by Las Bodegas.

Bodega Norton is launching sparkling Chardonnay Cosecha Especial, a Malbec rosé, and Ofrenda, a premium Malbec/Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon blend targeted at off-trade multiples - as well as new vintages from other ranges. Importer Berkmann Wine Cellars is also showing wines from Masi Tupungato for the first time. The winery, in Mendoza's Tupungato

Valley, says it mingles Argentinian and Venetian winemaking styles. The range includes Corbec, a Corvina/Malbec blend; Passo Doble, double-fermented Malbec grapes with a small amount of Corvina; and Passo Blanco, a Pinot Grigio/Torrontés blend.

Ehrmanns is unveiling three premium Fairtrade Malbecs and new labels from its latest Argentinian signing Soluna, as well as two organic additions from San Juan (£5.99) and two new Reserve wines (£6.99) in the Elementos range, which also has a new label design.
