Magners is launching a 6x75cl bottle pack later this month and broadening distribution of its 6x33cl bottle pack. The Irish cidermaker has not yet decided on a price for the new 6x75cl pack, which is designed to cater for higher-volume purchases in the run-up to Christmas.

Fuller's is sampling its blonde beer Discovery in the hope of an Indian summer - or as a good beer to go with a curry if the summer doesn't arrive. The brand has recently increased its distribution in Waitrose.

Heineken has launched a drink combining cider, barley, malt and fruit flavours targeted at women in the Netherlands. Charli is a 5 per cent abv brew which is being sold bottled and on tap in Dutch bars, but the brewer is not planning to release it in the UK.

Reasons to be cheerful

I would like to think my outlook on things is generally optimistic. Perhaps that’s a natural consequence of working with something designed to give pleasure. But recently it has become increasingly difficult to ignore a creeping sense of negativity pervading the British wine trade.
