Published:  07 September, 2007

Wine Australia is hosting a series of tastings in London, Manchester and Edinburgh.

Wine targeted at the independent sector will be showcased at the Independents Day tasting on Sept 26 at Australia House, London. Now in its third year, the tasting will feature premium wines seeking distribution

that are not listed in multiple retailers.

The second event, at Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, on Oct 10,

will have a particular focus on Wine Australia's new

brand theme of Regional Heroes.

Australia Day tastings will take place in Edinburgh on Jan 28 2008 and in London on Jan 30 (consumer) and 31 (trade).

The London tasting has been reduced to one day, but the opening hours have been extended. To register for the events, or for more information, call 0207 887 5259 or e-mail uk@wineaustralia.com.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
