Majestic wins Wine Challenge title

Majestic picked up the top retail award at last night's International Wine Challenge presentation at London's Grosvenor House hotel. The chain was named as wine merchant of the year and best high street chain.

Tesco picked up the prize for wine supermarket of the year. Dan Jago, Jason Godley and the team were recognised for their work in revitalising the Tesco wine range a process which has earned them praise from both the trade and consumers.

Thresher picked up a special education award for its commitment to training.

Secret Cellar in London was named best small independent wine merchant.

COMMENT

The shops that stand out from the madding crowd

The judges met last week to sort out the winners in the independent categories of our 2018 Drinks Retailing Awards. The results are top secret until the awards dinner on February 6 but it’s giving nothing away to report that the overall standard of those that will be revealed in the shortlist of finalists in the January issue of DRN is higher than it’s ever been.
