Tragedy of Thierry's Wine boss

13 September, 2007

The wine trade has been shocked by the sudden death of Thierry Cabanne – chairman and founder of Thierry's Wine Services – in a car accident in the early hours of this morning.

He had previously been attending the International Wine Challenge awards at Grosvenor House in London.

Buying director Dominique Vrigneau said: "This is a terrible shock. After 15 years together you never think this can happen. Thierry always said that he wanted to create a business that would survive him and we want to prove him right. Everyone at Thierry’s is deeply sad and will miss him terribly."

The leadership of Thierry’s Wine Services continues under Ged Welch as managing director and Hatim Dungarwalla as finance director, supported by the executive team Dominique Vrigneau, Lindsay Talas and Matt Dickinson.

Agreeing to disagree

Disagreeing about wine is a fact of wine-trade life, like drugs in sport or corruption in politics. Because taste is entirely subjective, debates about our personal preferences are as inevitable as they are interminable. Indeed, these long-winded, wine-fuelled arguments are precisely what make our jobs so much fun.
