Memorial service for Thierry Cabanne

17 September, 2007

Thierry Cabanne, the chairman of Thierry's Wine Services who was killed in a car accident last week, will have a private family funeral followed at a later date by a memorial service for friends and colleagues.

Thierry's Dominique Vrigneau said Cabanne's two sisters, both based in France, wanted the funeral to be on a small-scale for the 62-year-old's family and closest friends.

The memorial service date has not yet been decided.

Cabanne, who arrived in Britain in 1968 and formed Thierry's in 1981, was a popular and widely-respected trade figure who did not seek publicity for himself.

His death on Thursday morning, when his car was involved in a single-vehicle accident near his Hampshire home, stunned the wine trade.
